3 Lady Washington: 1790

Class: Scratch Built
Materials: Basswood, hardwood, Brass, Copper.

Model Description: A 65 ft. Bermuda sloop of 90 tons burthen built in 1787. Boston merchants acquired her as a consort to the ship Columbia on her first voyage to the northwest under the command of Capt. Robert Grey. In rounding the horn the two ships were separated and Capt. Grey managed to get the ship to Nootka Sound before the Columbia, becoming the first American vessel to reach the west coast. She was converted to a brig in 1790 while in the China trade and was the first ship to fly the American flag in Alaska and Japan. She was wrecked off the Chinese coast in 1798.

Bio: Retired from Lucent Technologies in 1984 as an installation engineer. He became interested in ship modeling after taking a ship modeling class at Malley Senior Center given by RMS member Fred Tournier.
